Have you ever seen a book title and thought, "I've read that!" only to read the blurb and wind up scratching your head, now unsure? If you've not read reviews beforehand all you have to go on in picking a book is title, author, cover, blurb, and word of mouth. If any of those doesn't appeal, the book gets passed by. So here's my dilemma:
For my Diversion series, each book seemed to pick its own title based on the prevailing theme (the last three titles are still tentative):
Diversion
Collusion
Corruption
Manipulation
Redemption
Because Collusion and Corruption are so similar, would you, as a reader, confuse them?
I wouldn't confuse them. The words are different enough. Courtney Milan has a series of romance novels with similar titles: Unveiled, Unclaimed, Unraveled, Unlocked.
ReplyDeleteThose words are more similar and if readers are at all confused (I wasn't), I haven't heard anyone complain about it. :)
Hi, Tali! I'm hoping that it won't be a problem, because I've got my heart set on that title. But you never know, the book might go in a whole other direction. I'm a pantser writer.
ReplyDeleteHi Eden! Love this series! I don't think it's too similar!
ReplyDeleteThe titles are all rather distinctive with the -ion ending and it's easy to connect them. When I saw the title "Collusion" up on the Coming Soon page over at Amber Allure, I hoped this was the second part because it reminded me of "Diversion". And that was before the blurb was available and I realized that Collusion is indeed the sequel. Doesn't the blurb generally say something like this is the sequel to...? I guess your loyal readers will all be waiting for the new book anyway and know which one is which! I always check the author's and publisher's pages when I know a sequel is due :-)
You've made my day, stormymonday211! It's always nice to hear that someone anticipated a release. I didn't realize Diversion would spawn a series of I'd have given it a clever series name. I just hope I don't confuse people. I do hope you enjoy Collusion. (And the following sequels!)
DeleteTo be honest, there are a lot of romance series (and even a lot of stand-alone romances) with similar names like that. I rarely remember the names, and it doesn't usually matter. I use Goodreads to keep track of what goes where and what order to read series books in, and that works.
ReplyDeleteI'll probably mix up (or just plain forget) most of the names in this series. And I'm probably not the only one. And it won't really matter. :)
Angie
Hi Angie! To be honest, now that I've written the post, the book is trying to whisper "Obsession" at me. Sigh. We'll just have to see how it goes.
DeleteI wouldn't confuse them. I'd just be looking for the next book :) Really liking this series!
ReplyDeleteSadonna
Thank you, Sadonna! I'm hard at work on books three and four.
DeleteI don't think I will confuse them.
ReplyDeleteI get a problem when there are more than one book with the same title :)
Thanks. Yeah, there are a few books out with the same name, or very similar names. I have to hand it to authors like Michael Murphy for his creative titles like, "Little Squirrels Can Climb Tall Trees" and "When Dachhunds Ruled the Serengeti".
DeleteNo, I don't think so. Thrilled to see that this series will continue.
ReplyDeleteJust finished both books and loved them. Here is the link http://wp.me/p220KL-18p
Thanks again for 2 great reads.

Thanks so much, Melanie, and thanks for the awesome reviews. I'm so glad you're enjoying Bo and Lucky's story. Hee.... I'm a lurker at your site, and I love your Vocabulary Gone Bad posts. Hilarious! (And I'm taking notes to make sure I don't use any of those.)
DeleteThanks, I love writing my VGB posts and have a new one rolling about in my mind now.
ReplyDeleteWould you mind if I update my last review to include the fact that more are coming? I am sure fans of this series are dying to know
Oh, please do. And thanks! I'll be watching for your next VGB post.
